Singapore Airlines (SIA) is to launch a non-stop Singapore – San Francisco service, and it will add a second daily frequency from Los Angeles, the airline said in a statement today.
To date, Singapore Airlines operates two daily flights to San Francisco from Singapore, one stopping at Seoul Incheon and other in Hong Kong. Now, the second Singapore – Los Angeles service will stop in the capital city of South Korea as of October 23, 2016.

“Our customers have been asking us to offer more U.S. services and we are pleased to be able to do so. With new non-stop San Francisco flights and the increase in frequency to Los Angeles, customers will have two flights to choose from each day to both of these popular U.S. West Coast destinations,” said Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Ms. Lee Wen Fen.
The announcement comes days after the launch of United Airlines’ San Francisco – Singapore flight, the first direct service between both countries in three years since the cancellation of SIA’s direct flights to Los Angeles and Newark. Interestingly, and although both carriers are Star Alliance members, the new flight will not be codeshared.

The new San Francisco route is going to be operated with the airline’s Airbus A350-900, and it will become the longest route served by the carrier at 8,451 miles (13,600 km.). SIA expects to resume its direct flights to Newark and Los Angeles in 2018, once it begins to take delivery of seven of the ultra-long-haul variant of the Airbus A350-900, dubbed the A350-90ULR.

The A350-900 will be able to operate non-stop San Francisco flights on a year-round basis, although depending on headwinds there will be some payload restrictions. The aircraft is configured with 253 seats in a three-class cabin layout.
